Add options to a product

   Open the product’s Options tab

   Edit the product and click Options in the Product data box (simple and variable products). Click + Add option.

   Describe the option

   Give it a Label customers will understand, such as “Engraving”, and choose its Type: Dropdown, Radio buttons, Checkboxes (choose several), Swatches (colour or image), Tick box (yes or no), Text, Paragraph text, Number, Date or File upload. Add Help text if it needs explaining, and switch on Customers must fill this in if it’s required.

   Add choices and prices

   For dropdowns, radio buttons, checkboxes and swatches, add each choice with its Extra price (a fixed amount or a percentage), and for swatches a Colour or an image address. For other types, choose a Price: a fixed amount, a percentage of the product’s price, per letter (text) or per unit (number). Leave it at No extra charge for free options.

   Update and check the product page

   Click Update. The options appear above Add to cart, in your theme’s style, with a running total of what they add. Customers can’t add the product until required options are filled in.

File uploads

• Choose which files to accept (images, PDFs or both) and the largest size, up to 50 MB.
• Files are kept in your uploads folder under joinery-options, in folders with random names so they can’t be guessed or listed, and nothing there can run as a script.
• The file is a link on the order and in the order emails. It may contain personal data, so delete files you no longer need.

Tip: Products with options show “Select options” on shop pages and link to the product page, so customers always see the choices.
