Set up buy X, get Y offers

Buy 2, get 1 free, second one half price, or mix and match across a category: the cheapest items are discounted.

  1. 1

    Add a rule

Go to Joinery → Rules, click Add rule and name it, such as “Buy 2, get 1 free on hardware”. Add conditions only if the offer is for some customers or dates, such as a Date range.

  2. 2

    Choose Buy X, get Y

Under Then do this, choose Buy X, get Y. Enter how many items the customer buys and, if the offer is for some products, pick their categories. Leave the categories empty for any product.

  3. 3

    Choose what they get

Enter how many items they get and at what discount: 100 makes them free, 50 is half price. Leave the second categories empty to give items from the same group (mix and match), or pick other categories, such as “buy 3 shirts, get a cap at half price”.

  4. 4

    Choose how often, and save

Every time they buy that many repeats the offer (6 items in a “buy 2, get 1” give 2 free); Once per order gives it once. Click Save rule.

  5. 5

    Check the cart

Add matching products to the cart. The offer shows as its own line under the subtotal, such as “Buy 2, get 1 free −$12.00”.

How it’s worked out

  • The cheapest qualifying items are always the ones discounted.
  • An item is counted only once: as one the customer buys, or one they get.
  • The offer uses each product’s price after your other price rules, such as bulk prices.
  • VAT comes off with the discount, at the rate of the products discounted, whether your prices include tax or not.
  • Gift cards never count toward an offer and are never discounted.
