Find, resend and create gift cards
See every gift card and its balance, resend or disable one, change when it expires, and create cards by hand.
Go to WooCommerce → Gift cards. Every card is listed with its value, balance, recipient, order, status and expiry date. Codes show only their last four characters, so they’re safe on screen.
Find a card
Search by the full code, its last four characters, the recipient’s or buyer’s email, or the order number.
Resend, disable or change the expiry
- Resend emails the gift card to its recipient again, for example when it landed in spam.
- Disable stops a card from being used, for example after a chargeback. Enable undoes it. The balance stays as it was.
- Under Expires, click Change, pick a date and click Save, for example to extend a card that’s about to expire. Clear the date for a card that never expires.
Create a gift card by hand
Use Create a gift card for prizes, apologies or cards sold in your shop. Enter the Amount, check Expires on (it starts at your shop’s setting; leave it empty for never) and the Recipient’s email, and click Create gift card: it’s emailed straight away. Leave the email empty to get the code on screen instead, shown once, to write on a card yourself.
Settings
- New gift cards expire after: a number of months, or 0 for never. It applies to cards made from then on, unless a product sets its own. Check the minimum validity your country requires before you set one.
- Let signed-in customers pay with their store credit at checkout: untick it to hide the store credit option at checkout.
Tip: Developers can create cards and credit from the command line: wp joinery gift-card create 50 --email=sam@example.com --expires=2027-12-31, and wp joinery credit <user> 10 --note="Thank you".
