Reward customers with store credit

Give credit automatically after an order, such as “Spend $100, get $10 back”, with a rule.

  1. 1

    Add a rule

Go to Joinery → Rules and click Add rule. Name it so your team recognises it, such as “$10 back over $100”.

  2. 2

    Choose who earns it

Under When all of these are true, add conditions as for any rule: for example Cart subtotal is at least 100, a Customer role, a Date range for a promotion, or a Product category (it counts if any product in the order is in it). Gift cards in the order never count.

  3. 3

    Set the reward

Under Then do this, choose Give store credit. Enter the Credit to give, a share of what they spent, or both: they’re added together. The share is of the products’ total after discounts, without tax or shipping.

  4. 4

Choose when, and for how long

Under Give it, choose When the order is completed (safest: nothing is given for orders cancelled before you ship) or When the order is paid. In Credit expires after, enter a number of days, or leave it empty for credit that never expires. Click Save rule.

What happens next

  • Once the order reaches that point, the credit is added in the background, usually within a minute. Each rule gives credit once per order.
  • The customer gets an order note email saying how much they earned and until when, and sees it as Reward in My account → Store credit.
  • If the order is later cancelled or refunded in full, the credit is taken back, as far as the customer hasn’t spent it. The order notes say how much.
  • Store credit needs a customer account: guest orders don’t earn it, and the order notes say so.

Tip: Credit not showing up? Check the order’s notes first. Then go to WooCommerce → Status → Scheduled Actions and search for joinery: if WP-Cron doesn’t run on your site, pending jobs wait there until it does.
